THE BACKSTAGE CLUB

The Old Museum's Studio One is one of three divisions of the enormous room that once housed the old-time treasures of the Brisbane Museum.
For the season of Brisbane Unplugged, Studio One will morph into The Backstage Club. Its front entrance faces the Gregory Terrace gates, and its foyer and interiors will be tricked up with the kind of tat you'd expect to see in Mark Keegan's theatrical warehouse.
Fantasy lighting, cabaret tables and two bars round off the effect.
The biggest trick will be the performance space, a scaled down version of a traditional vaudeville stage with a full theatre rig; sets, projections, FX, and lighting, all dollied up to assist the quick costume and mood changes.
It's been a long time since Brisbane has had anything like this!
Dress to match the flamboyant décor folks: where else would you get the chance?

KATHY HEATH

Exquisite Society Caterer

Kathy's ever-so-lovely teahouse, High Societea in leafy suburban Clayfield has made her an award-winning entrepreneur!
She serves Lady Bracknell morning and afternoon teas at beautiful rose-strewn tables and her place is always full.
Wearing her Brisbane Unplugged hat, she gives a Mayfair touch to the pre-show cocktail nosh:

Delightful finger food with a proper Brisbane birthday flourish! Tuck in before the show! And she has a cute little interval surprise...

The Garden Terrace Bar is open from 7pm for a glass or two of proper Yalumba wines, beer, chilled water and Kathy's famous High Societea Fruit Punch...
This is called "Putting you in the mood."
The show is designed to "Keep your mood in overdrive!"

THE GINGERBREAD LADY

The Old Museum on the corner of Bowen Bridge Road and Gregory Terrace: no ordinary building!
An example of how yesterday architects tried so desperately to make Brisbane look as grand as the great cities of the Northern Hemisphere.
Topped with turrets and edged with fairytale castle balconies this magnificent monument to the past has had a chequered career as an exhibition hall, a concert hall, an art gallery, a museum and a music hall.
There were moves in the 70s and 80s to put this Gingerbread Lady on the chopping block: Termites had chewed into her, her interiors were crumbling and she was on the skids.
Then in the 1990s the Queensland Youth Orchestra rode to her rescue by making her a home for gifted young musicians…They’re still there.
She has since survived to become a prized venue for functions, concerts, special events, cultural festivals and alternative theatre.

BIG NIGHT OUT!

Feel like a party with your pals? Instead of firing up the barbie, over-sizzling the snags, messing up the designer garden and intimidating the neighbours, just hit The Backstage Club around 7 O'Clock for a fabulous designer tucker snack and a goblet or two.
Take in the fresh air on the wide terrace overlooking the Old Museum's beauteous gardens, chuckle through the show, then chill out afterwards with a bottle of Yalumba Goody Juice.
Here's the best excuse for a party since Christmas and if you're the host you don't have to wear any of the stress.
